Graham Finlayson who has been a proud member of the Rotary Club of Newlands since 2000 has been inducted as the new President for 2017/2018.

Finlayson was first introduced to Rotary as an exchange student in 1974 and recalls that time as a “life-changing experience”. “When I came back to join the Rotary Club of Newlands in 2000, I felt it was time to become involved in the greater community again to ‘payback my dues’ while networking and assisting those in need,” says Finlayson.

With his enthusiasm and vision, he shared his goals for the year with the guests. “I would like to build on the Club’s many strengths and work towards achieving a Rotary International Citation. This is going to require achieving a high level of sustainability on all projects, both environmentally and socially, while engendering an enjoyable social spirit of volunteerism amongst the members.

“We will continue to work towards the 2017/2018 Rotary theme of ‘making a difference’; Early Childhood Development (ECD) will remain a core focus for the club. Four previous projects have been the ECD centers in Mbekweni, Philippi, and Masiphumelele as well as the School for Children with Autism at Noluthando in Khayelitsha,” adds Finlayson.

Outgoing President, Chris Beech commented, “We wish Graham all the best on his Rotary journey, and with taking the club from strength to strength.”
The Rotary Club of Newlands welcomes those who would be interested to join a worldwide network of inspired individuals who translate their passions into relevant social causes to change lives in communities.
