Mar 8, 2009 - The Tour of Storms - Cycle Tour Print E-mail

Newlands Rotarians, friends and families spent the busiest cycle tour yet when a raging South Easter making its ample presence felt on the course.  For safety reasons, the race was closed early, leaving close to 1,000 cyclists out on the course and presenting the greatest event challenge yet to the organisers.

With safety the primary concern, JOC commander, Brad Geyser, ordered a final late sweep of the south peninsula section of the course.  Volunteer, Mike Nixon, to whom the duty fell, reported by SMS from Ou Kaapse Weg on his return to Cape Town at 20:30, "Top of Ou Kaapse Weg in thick mist.  Results of late night special - three penguins, 1 owl, 1 wild goose, none with bikes or race numbers ;-)"
